What happens after five or six years of marriage, when the fires of passion die down? Yoshihiko, a veterinarian, makes love to his wife out of a sense of duty, while his wife Shoko, a promising lighting designer, pretends to take pleasure in his advances. Meanwhile, Kenji puts on that he's just too busy with work to respond to his wife's need for physical affection, eventually causing trouble for his wife and daughter when he has an affair with Shoko.
