In an increasingly uninhabitable world where excessive heat waves have triggered global crop blights, mass food shortages, and a humanitarian crisis, the United Coalition of Nations has begun evacuating the remaining population to the safety of orbital outposts. When Jamal returns home from a supply run with an evacuation leaflet for their region, his older brother Abdi refuses to leave, believing that they can weather the storm.
